One of the most challenging issues facing New England homeowners is how to make older or historic homes more energy efficient without losing their character and charm or paying for expensive solutions that may not work. At this talk, learn common sense ways to make an old house more energy efficient and hear about how Historic New England has made significant energy improvements to its properties without damaging historic fabric. Carissa Demore, Team Leader for Preservation Services at Historic New England, will present a historic preservation perspective on insulation, air sealing, mechanical upgrades and other energy retrofit opportunities in existing homes.

Carissa Demore joined Historic New England in 2013 and was appointed Team Leader of Preservation Services in 2017. Her experience includes historic preservation advocacy, protecting properties using preservation and conservation easements, and developing educational programs, workshops, lectures, and tours for preservation students, professionals, and the general public. Carissa has a B.S. in Landscape Architecture from Colorado State University and a Master’s degree in Historic Preservation from the University of Maryland. She previously worked for the City of Annapolis, Maryland, and the L’Enfant Trust in Washington, D.C.
