Many genealogists, work with scanned or photographed documents, such as ship manifests, birth records, declarations of intention, etc., which are often surrounded by black borders and other unwanted items, such as the edges of pages. Additionally, these documents may be tilted or require changes in brightness and contrast to read text. Fortunately, these defects can be removed and/or fixed using free image processing software.  Learn how from Wilmington resident Bernie Lyons.
